EVs are vehicles that run on electric motors with rechargeable batteries, powered by electricity. The primary source of EVs is electricity.

The traditional fuel vehicles run on combustion engines that require petrol, diesel, or CNG as fuels to run the engines. Here, the primary source for traditional fuel vehicles are fuels like petrol, diesel, etc.

Is India ready for electric vehicles?

This is the most debated topic because, in India, we see power cuts for a longer period being so common, especially in the summer, which means we have a scarcity of this resource. Traditional fuel vehicles that use petrol, diesel, or CNG are more expensive than electrical energy, which is required for EVs.

When comparing fuels and electricity, we have more resources to generate electricity, like power generators, the traditional way of generating electricity, and many more ways. We have very few ways of generating or getting fuels naturally, so the fuels or resources needed to run traditional fuel vehicles may exhaust within a short period if people continue to use fuel without switching. Traditional fuel vehicles are getting outdated.

Obviously, with the evolving technologies, adoption of new technologies, new practices, change in infrastructure, and establishment of more charging stations for EVs, India is almost ready for EVs, and the new trend for transportation is EVs, which are stylish, modern, and require less maintenance, so people are moving towards EVs.

But the adoption of technologies is also a common tradition, and we are used to it. In the past few years, folks have been moving towards EVs, which are less pollutant, very less expensive in terms of fuel cost, no noise, easy to ride, and no more riding experience is needed. But India, with all the challenges, needs further infrastructure development, charging stations, concerns related to battery disposal, and consistent support. The success of EVs in India is dependent on collaborative efforts from the government, industry stakeholders, and the public.
