One of the most eye-catching cars in Toyota’s lineup at the Auto Expo 2023 was the Toyota BZ4X, the automaker’s first entirely electric SUV. It is the first of Toyota’s dedicated EV range termed “beyond zero” or in short “bZ” and is built on the company’s new e-TNGA which is the Toyota New Global Architecture platform.
On the opening day of the Auto Expo 2023, Toyota introduced its first electric car model, the Toyota BZ4X, in India on Wednesday.
Speaking of the design, the vehicle has a dual-tone color and appears to be more sporty, with a simple bumper and an antagonistic LED or DRL system. On the other hand, the rear end includes integrated LED Tail lamps, which share similarities with many other luxury vehicles in the sector.
It is equipped with a panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver’s display, an eight-way power adjustable driver seat, heated and ventilated front seats, and a nine-speaker JBL audio system. Eight airbags, a 360-degree camera, and ADAS features including adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking assistance, lane departure warning, and blind spot monitoring constitute its safety net. The Toyota BZ4X is the new BEV-specific vehicle from the company with a stated driving range of more than 400km.
A 71.4 kW battery in the front-wheel drive trim version of the vehicle allows it to travel up to 405 kilometers on a single charge. On the other hand, the 72.8 kW battery in an all-wheel drive vehicle allows for a 369 km range on a single charge. It can charge from zero to 80% in 30 minutes using its charging capabilities, which enables fast charging.
The SUV is currently offered in the US market with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. Also, Snow or Dirt, Deep Snow, Mud, and Grip are the various modes currently available.
The Toyota BZ4X has eight airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, front and rear parking assist with automatic braking, traction control, ABS with EBD, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, road sign assist, and a blind spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert as standard safety features.
It has two available powertrains, a 204 PS single motor front wheel drive, and a 217 PS dual motor all-wheel drive. Despite the available powertrains, a basic battery pack can be charged by utilizing a DC fast charger of up to 150 kW. The SUV claims to have a range of up to 405 km and 369 km for single and twin motor variants, respectively.
It is unlikely that Toyota would introduce it in India any time soon, though. It is anticipated that the vehicle should make its premiere by the end of 2025.
