Top 10 Affordable Electric Cars You Can Expect in 2022

November 6, 2022

Electric cars are becoming more and more popular these days, with more automakers jumping on the bandwagon every year. For example, Honda revealed its first electric car in 2018, and it’s expected to release its second model later this year. Many of the top affordable electric cars in 2022 will likely come from Japanese automakers like Honda and Toyota, but we may also see some affordable electric cars from European car manufacturers like BMW and Audi as well. Here are the top ten affordable electric cars you can expect to see on the market by 2022:

Chevrolet Bolt EV

The Chevy Bolt is an electric vehicle that has a range of over 200 miles. It’s affordable, starting at around $30,000, and it’s a great option for those who are looking to switch to an electric car. The Bolt is expected to be released in 2022.

The Chevy Bolt will be one of the longest-range electric vehicles available at its launch date. With an expected starting price of around $30,000 before incentives from various states and federal tax credits are applied, this will be an affordable option for drivers who want a high-performance car with all the benefits of electric propulsion.

Model 3 – Tesla

The Tesla Model 3 is one of the most highly anticipated electric vehicles. It’s a four-door sedan that can seat up to five people, and it has a range of about 315 miles on a single charge. The starting price for the Model 3 is $46,000, making it one of the more affordable electric cars on the market.

Leaf – Nissan

The Nissan Leaf has been one of the most popular electric cars since it was first introduced in 2010, and it’s only getting better with age. The latest model is expected to have a range of up to 226 miles on a single charge, making it a great option for long-distance travel. Plus, with a starting price of just under $30,000, it’s one of the most affordable electric cars on the market.

i3 – BMW

The i3 is an all-electric car with a range of up to 160 miles. It’s powered by a 170-horsepower electric motor and has a top speed of 93 mph. The i3 starts at $44,500.

The car was designed for urban areas, so it has a very short range and charges quickly—between four to eight hours with a 240-volt charger. The battery can be swapped out for up to $1,000 if you’re ready to upgrade. BMW also offers an optional range extender that runs on gasoline and powers an electric generator to extend your i3’s range by up to 80 miles. As an all-electric vehicle, there are no tailpipe emissions, which is good news for people who live in areas with high smog levels.

i-Miev – Mitsubishi

The Mitsubishi i-MiEV is a five-door hatchback electric car produced by the Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi Motors and is the world’s first mass-produced electric vehicle. It was first introduced in Japan in 2009 and was later introduced to the European market in 2011. The i-MiEV is based on the Mitsubishi I Kei car and has a range of around 160 kilometers (100 miles) on a single charge.

The i-MiEV has a top speed of 130 kilometers per hour (80 miles per hour) and can be charged from a standard household outlet. As of April 2017, over 16,000 i-MiEVs have been sold worldwide since its introduction.

Kona – Hyundai

The Hyundai Kona is another affordable electric car, starting at around $35,000. It has a range of over 300 miles and comes with a variety of features that make it a great choice for those looking for an electric car. The Kona is expected to be released in 2022. However, the Model 3 will remain one of the best options as well. Starting at around $35,000, the Kona will come with enough room for five passengers and have an impressive driving range of more than 250 miles on a single charge.

Volkswagen e-Golf – Volkswagen

The e-Golf is an electric car that was first introduced in 2014. It has a range of 83 miles and a top speed of 87 mph. The e-Golf is currently the most affordable electric car from Volkswagen, with a starting price of $32,000.

Kia Soul EV – Kia

In many ways, the Kia Soul EV is very similar to the Mitsubishi i-MiEV. With similar performance at a lower cost, there are plenty of reasons why you might choose this electric vehicle as your next ride. Inside and out, the Kia Soul EV offers excellent build quality for an affordable price. Starting at just $35,000 before incentives, the Kia Soul EV offers all of the features that have made it such a popular model in recent years with an added zero-emissions powertrain option. It can even be charged using DC fast charging which will allow for up to 80% charge within 40 minutes!

Hyundai Ioniq EV – Hyundai

Though we’re not expecting the Hyundai Ioniq EV until late 2020, we’re confident that this car will be worth the wait. With a low purchase price and efficient design, this car could become one of the best options for people looking to save money on their commute.  In addition, this model comes with an eight-year warranty! The Hyundai Ioniq EV is definitely worth waiting for. It’s affordable, has a long battery life, and has a great range. Plus, it doesn’t sacrifice style or performance! With all these benefits, it’s easy to see why the Hyundai Ioniq EV tops our list of affordable electric cars you can expect in 2022.

Ford Focus Electric – Ford:

If you’re looking for something more traditional than an SUV or crossover utility vehicle, but still want access to the great range and quick charging capabilities then the Ford Focus Electric may be right up your alley. It’s no surprise that this car is one of the most affordable on our list at $30,000 MSRP before incentives.

The Focus Electric is surprisingly spacious inside with seating for five adults comfortably and cargo space capable of holding about as much as a Kia Soul. However, it’s not without its flaws–the Focus’ charge capacity maxes out at just 22 kWh so you’ll need to stop every other day if you drive a lot. It also lacks features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity which could really make things difficult when using GPS navigation apps that rely on these connections for traffic updates etcetera. Other than those minor shortcomings, this electric car offers a decent value proposition at $30k with enough range and charger speeds to suit most drivers’ needs.
