In a significant move to boost electric vehicle (EV) adoption and consumer confidence, Tata Motors has announced a lifetime warranty on high-voltage batteries for three of its key electric vehicle models — Harrier.ev, Curvv.ev, and the Nexon.ev (45 kWh variant).
The initiative marks a first-of-its-kind offer in India’s automotive industry, aligning battery warranty duration with the 15-year vehicle registration period defined under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
As you can see in the images above, Tata Motors is officially offering a “Lifetime Warranty” on the high-voltage battery for select electric vehicles — the Tata Harrier.ev, Curvv.ev, and Nexon.ev (45 kWh).
The warranty applies to the first registered owner for 15 years with unlimited kilometres, aligning with the vehicle’s registration validity under the Motor Vehicles Act.
The “lifetime” warranty, as officially defined by Tata Motors, covers 15 years with unlimited kilometres for the first registered owner of the eligible EV models. This warranty applies across the following:
Tata Harrier.ev (65 kWh and 75 kWh battery variants)
Tata Curvv.ev (45 kWh and 55 kWh variants)
Tata Nexon.ev 45 kWh (excluding the 30 kWh base model)
Notably, this extended warranty retroactively applies to all eligible Curvv.ev and Nexon.ev (45 kWh) units sold since their respective launch dates, ensuring early adopters receive the same coverage as new buyers.
Tata has further differentiated coverage based on vehicle ownership stage:

Furthermore, it places Tata Motors ahead of competitors such as Hyundai, MG, and Mahindra, none of which currently offer comparable long-term battery coverage in India.
A spokesperson from Tata Motors emphasised that the warranty is designed to offer “complete peace of mind” and reinforce the brand’s commitment to sustainable mobility.
It also aligns with Tata’s broader strategy of supporting EV adoption through domestic battery production and advanced LFP (lithium iron phosphate) chemistry, which is known for durability and thermal stability.
While the policy offers extensive protection, Tata clarified that the lifetime warranty:
Excludes commercial-use vehicles
Is void if the battery is tampered with or replaced by unauthorised sources
Requires all scheduled services and diagnostics to be performed at Tata’s authorised EV service centres

However, the catch is that this warranty is limited strictly to the first registered owner and is non-transferable. That means if the vehicle is sold, the lifetime coverage ends.
