Within the electric vehicle segment, which is largely dominated by Tata Motors, Mahindra intends to make a gradual entry throughout 2024, with models such as the updated XUV400, Mahindra XUV e8 and new XUV300 EV.
Here’s an exclusive first look at the all-new Mahindra ZE8 inside the plant in what looks like a close-up of the production model. The all-new ZE8 is set to take the world stage at the end of 2024.
There will be some distinctive characteristics.
e8 to have a capacity of 80kWh.
The Interior is to have three screens across the dashboard.
Exterior to be largely similar to the XUV700 but EV-specific.
While it’s still not finished, this is the first time we’ve been able to get an up-close look at the body panels. The bonnet and doors look pretty much the same as the previous XUV700, with the same kink at the C-pillar and the same roofline flow. This is also in line with the design patent filed earlier by Mahindra. The only thing that’s different about this EV is the new fascia, which features a full-width LED light bar at the nose, which also drops down vertically to the bumper. As usual with EVs, the grille is completely sealed off. You won’t be able to see the rear here either, as it’s hidden behind the bumper. However, it’s safe to assume that this EV has the same design as the standard XUV700.
Previous interior spy shots have revealed three horizontally oriented screens – one behind the steering wheel serving as the digital driver’s display, the one in the center serving infotainment duties, and the third one for the passenger providing multiple details about the vehicle and more. It will also have a new touch-based climate control panel and a flat-bottomed, two-spoke steering wheel, similar to new Tata SUVs.
There will, however, be some parts sharing with the regular XUV700 to keep costs competitive. Some of the switchgear, door panels, and seats are likely to be shared with its ICE-powered cousin.
Although it will share the same bodywork with its XUV700 sibling, it will be completely different underneath the hood. This is thanks to Mahindra’s built-in electric skateboard platform, the INGLO, which Mahindra has already announced will be the base of the XUV8. All-wheel drive will be standard on this model, with battery pack options ranging from 80kWh to 230hp, and power outputs from 230hp to 350hp. This will be Mahindra’s first ever production-ready EV, and it is set to hit the road by December 2024, with the SUV-couple version – the XUV9 – following shortly after.
