Ola Electric Begins Test Rides

Ola Electric has started customer test rides of its new electric vehicles powered by the indigenously developed 4680 “Bharat Cell” battery pack.

This marks a major step forward for India’s EV technology and the company’s broader goal of building more components in-house.

The announcement gained attention after Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal shared the update on his X handle, stating that he was excited to see customers experience the new battery-powered scooters at Ola’s flagship stores.

What’s New?

The first model to receive the new battery technology is the Ola S1 Pro+ (5.2 kWh).

Test rides have officially begun at Ola’s major flagship stores across India. Customers can now experience the upgraded scooter before its full rollout.

Key highlights of the new 4680 Bharat Cell battery pack include:

  • Improved range

  • Better performance

  • Enhanced safety features

  • Faster charging capability

  • Higher energy density compared to earlier packs

The battery pack has also received AIS-156 Amendment 4 certification, which is one of India’s latest and strictest safety standards for EV battery systems.

Why This Is Important

This launch is significant for several reasons:

1. India’s Push for Local Battery Manufacturing

The 4680 Bharat Cell is developed and produced in India. This helps reduce dependence on imported battery packs and strengthens the domestic EV supply chain.

2. Safer and More Efficient Battery Technology

With improved thermal management, higher range, and certified safety, the new battery technology aims to boost user confidence in EVs.

3. Better Performance for Daily Riders

Ola claims the upgraded scooter will deliver higher acceleration, improved efficiency, and a more stable range—something many EV buyers look for.

4. A Step Toward Mass Adoption

Starting with controlled test rides allows Ola to collect real-world feedback before scaling up production and deliveries.

What Customers Should Expect

Customers visiting Ola’s flagship stores can experience:

  • Smoother acceleration

  • Higher range capability

  • Better temperature control while riding

  • A more responsive ride feel

  • Upgraded battery safety systems

Before buying, customers should ask about:

  • Warranty coverage on the new battery

  • Expected real-world range (not just claimed range)

  • Charging time at home and public stations

  • Price difference compared to previous S1 models

What’s Next for Ola Electric?

Ola is working on expanding local battery manufacturing and integrating Bharat Cell technology across more models in the future.

The company has also hinted at more innovations, including improved motors, thermal systems, and EV platforms.

The start of test rides for the 4680 Bharat Cell-powered vehicles is a strong signal of Ola’s push toward technological independence and improved EV performance.

If the new battery lives up to its claims in real-world conditions, it could be a major turning point for India’s electric two-wheeler market.
