If you’ve been waiting for a Thar Electric 4×4 reveal this year, there’s a clear update from Mahindra Electric: it’s not coming in 2026. They also confirm no new EV Launch in 2026.
During its Q3 FY26 analyst meeting, the company confirmed that it will not introduce any new electric vehicle this year. Instead, Mahindra plans to concentrate on increasing sales of its existing electric SUVs and expanding their availability across India.
The newest addition to its portfolio is the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV, launched in January 2026.
It comes with a 39.4kWh battery, producing 147.5bhp and 310 N · m of torque. In real-world conditions, the SUV delivers around 285km of range on a single charge.
Prices start at ₹13.89 lakh (ex-showroom) and go up to ₹14.96 lakh, making it one of the more affordable electric SUV options in the country.
Mahindra clarified that this pause in new launches does not signal a slowdown in its EV ambitions.
Rather, 2026 will be about strengthening its current lineup, improving supply, and reaching more cities.
The company has set an ambitious goal of selling 7,000 to 8,000 electric vehicles per month by 2027, translating to over 80,000 units annually.
There are also no major EV-specific supply challenges at the moment.
According to the company, any semiconductor shortages affect petrol, diesel, and electric models equally.
Looking ahead, Mahindra confirmed that its next all-new electric model, codenamed BO7, is scheduled to arrive in 2027.
So while 2026 may not bring a new EV launch, including the much-anticipated Thar Electric, it marks a year focused on building stronger demand and wider adoption of the brand’s existing electric SUVs.
Mahindra first showcased its electric Thar concept, officially called the Vision Thar e, at a global event in Cape Town, South Africa. It was unveiled during the company’s Futurescape event on August 15, 2023, where the five-door electric SUV concept was revealed to the world.
